Dead Motorcycle Rider Robbed

TEXAS:  Dallas police on Wednesday arrested two homeless people suspected of stealing money and a cellphone from a dead motorcyclist whom police and fire personnel failed to find under a freeway ramp when they responded to his weekend accident.

It is undetermined whether the man died on impact or whether he lived from some time after the accident.  What appears to be true is that the two homeless persons robbed the victim.  Whether the victim was still alive while they robbed him is a dark and nasty question that may or may not be answered as the investigation proceeds.

As I read this article I was stunned at the sheer audacity of the homeless and yet I stepped back to look at how the homeless are treated in our society.  Do not get me wrong.  I am all for being responsible for oneself but I usually carry change in my pocket for the homeless that I encounter around my office in downtown Salt Lake City.  Often we walk by the homeless and given their disheveled dirty appearance make believe that they are something less than persons.  It makes me good to help in this small way.  I do other things to support the charity programs but nothing is like giving money directly to those who need it now.

Incidentally, when I am in mt leathers or carrying my helmet and give the homeless money they usually respond with something like "You bikers - you guys always help us out."  Good for us.
